Most of Egypt has a desert- type of climate. There is a vast difference between the day and night temperatures and the summer and winter temperatures. It is very hot and dry in summers but a little cool in winters. Dust- laden hot and dry winds blow during the early summer months of April and May. These dust storms are locally known as Khamsin.The rainfall is scanty. Only the coastal areas of Lower Egypt, which are near the Mediterranean, receive a little rainfall in winter.
