Barcelona is an immensely popular tourist destination and a commercial centre as a result hotels are in constant demand here. It’s always better to check out the prices and availability of discounts for your convenience. Remember to book much in advance, especially at the peak times of New Year, Easter and over the summer.

Barcelona has a huge variety of bars and restaurants, with prices to match all budgets. Restaurants are required to offer a fixed price menu del dia, which offer excellent value on for a smaller choice items than the main menu.

Music and dance, food and drink, if anyone knows how to have fun, it’s the Spanish. That and the need to avoid the daytime heat, means the locals literally grow up in the streets at night. And any excuse to get them back out on them – from demonstration to shopping to festival – will do it. So foreigners living in Spain find they spend a lot of their time drinking, dancing and talking the night away with the locals in ‘el marche”, going from bar to bar.

Working in Spain is easier than most western European countries. There’s plenty of work and since many have paved the road before you, the process is much easier. A European passport, a teaching certificate and English fluency can pretty much guarantee you a job if it’s the right time of year. Along with Italy and Greece, Spain has the highest number of residents studying English and it’s greatest source of income is tourism.

Spain is an amazing place to hang out under the sky. There’s the Pyrenees Mountains tumbling into France offering super ski opportunities and the rough Atlantic smashing into the Galician coast of “Green Spain” in the Northern half. Contrast this with “Brown Spain” in the Southern part revealing the bustling beaches lining the Mediterranean, olive trees and Flamenco dancing with only a few hours distance from Africa. Warm or cold, adventure or rest – Spain offers it all.

There are lots of options if you’re looking to shop in Spain. The high streets are plentiful, artisans are everywhere, little market treasures abound. Items of good quality can be found at a reasonable price both in the cities and the small towns. Spanish leather goods are prized internationally offering high – fashion originals affordably.

Transport

Rambling around Spain and it’s cities is a lot easier than other countries for foreigners. Since the weather is usually fine, walking is the choice of many especially at night when everyone’s out munching down tapas and dancing the night away. In bigger places, like Madrid, Barcelona, Seville or Valencia, an excellent bus or subway exists. Convenient, cheap and easy to use (about a euro), public transportation will get you from the bull ring to your favorite wine bar in no time. Taxis are also frequent and easy to get, although hailing one between four and six in the morning on a weekend can be tricky. For farther travel, Spain has an extensive bus system and the country’s national train system (RENFE) will get you to any festival in the country before it ends.
