Welcome to Teach English in Vietnam

Vietnam is a densely-populated, progressing country that in the last 30 years has had to recover from the devastation of war, the loss of financial support from the old Soviet Bloc, and the inflexibility of a designed economy. Vietnam welcomes your visit. You can be your own travel agent - many travel sites are available on the Internet, travelers can browse for just the right hotel in terms of location, size, amenities, and price. Vietnam Hotels are rated, using the well-known star rating system; include photographs of the hotels and rooms, as well as customer reviews providing first hand recommendations from those who know – people who have actually experienced what it's like to stay at a particular facility. The Vietnamese are no different from other people in Asia, if they tell you that they have the best food on the continent. The cuisine of Vietnam will offer you a huge number of novel experiences. One of the most pleasurable aspects of eating Vietnamese food is the act of sampling, altering and enhancing your food as you eat. You will find a table salad (xalach dia) of assorted fresh herbs, salad greens , and sprouts, and vinegared vegetables, comes as an accompaniment to almost every meal, and there are always condiments on hand Vietnamese soups epitomizes the freshness, complex flavors, and flexible do-it-yourself aspect of Vietnamese cuisine.

You’re never too far from a game of pool and a vodka & Red Bull, even in the mountains of Sapa (where by the way there’s also an English pub), all cities on the tourist trail have bars catering to foreigners. A standard night out in the Karaoke bars would be entertaining with a fusion of Vietnamese and English songs. There is a 12 am curfew that is officially enforced, which might be abandoned in the near future. The HCMC and Nha Trang are the liveliest cities for after-dark adventures, with masses of neon-lit bars and clubs. Hanoi is more relaxed, with many travellers spending their evenings strolling around Hoan Kiem Lake or hanging out at a local bia hoi.

Climate of Vietnam

Shopping in Vietnam

Vietnam is large enough to have several distinct climate zones. The South is hot, humid & tropical, with temperatures hovering in the 25-30°C all year round, but it rains the most from May to November.

The North has four distinct seasons, with a relatively nippy winter (temperatures can plunge below 15°C in Hanoi), a hot and dry summer and pleasant spring (March-April) and autumn (October-December) seasons. However, in the highlands both extremes are amplified, with occasional snow in the winter and temperatures hitting 40°C in the summer. In the Central regions the weather is somewhere in between, the rainy season is in summer, not the winter.

Vietnam is certainly a bargain hunter's delight. Foreigners are attracted to a huge variety of souvenirs and traditional handicrafts. Popular items that fascinate visitors are the remains from the Vietnam War-Army watches - clothing - compasses and all kinds of military equipment left behind by the US Army over 20 years ago.

Health guide

Malaria precautions are essential in rural border areas with Laos, Cambodia and China all year round. The risk is minimal in major cities, the Red River delta and the coastal plains of Nha Trang. Avoid mosquito bites by covering up by wearing clothes with long sleeves. After sunset, use insect repellents on exposed skin and mosquito nets. You are advised to be vaccinated against hepatitis A, typhoid and diphtheria. It may be advised to also be immunised for tuberculosis, rabies, hepatitis B, Japanese B encephalitis, and poliomyelitis. If you are entering Vietnam from an infected area you must hold a yellow fever certificate.
